Niyol had spent the majority of his day before sewing himself up some new clothes. It was a robe with a single sleeve, red with a black border. His hakama were black with maple leaves at the knees, and he was wearing the maple leaf hair tie that he'd bought the day before. It was a simple ensemble, but effective enough for him. While normally, people would wear some type of armor when acting in a close combat role, Niyol preferred having the mobility that clothes provided. He didn't need to care about preventing cuts when he could be limber enough to avoid getting them. [break][break] He was about to leave his room when he heard a knocking on the door. It was Izanami there to give him some information about a very recently announced occurrence that he was absent for. The guild was allowing adventurers to go to the deeper levels of the dungeon, past floor twenty, which was the previous highest floor anyone had gone through. She told him of the black wyvern that was found and the plight the retreating parties had endured as they fled. As it turned out, Niyol would be going in with two adventurers, instead of just Alura. He didn't like the idea of having an extra person, but he understood the need for an additional hand. Niyol had thanked Izanami for letting him know, and returned to his bed to craft a few things that may come in handy. [break][break] Niyol had been sitting on the edge of the fountain before sunrise, wanting to get there before his party to ensure that he didn't forget anything or have something stolen. "Rope, masks, vials, coins, med kit..." he said, listing off each item as he put them back in the bag. He was told that his party would consist of just three, but, he was also told that people were dying down there. Niyol had packed enough supplies to help five people, and kept the vials just in case he found anything interesting to study when they got back to the surface. When Alura, and Faerynn arrived, Niyol would be wearing a black bag held on by a single strap, that had an orange maple leaf on the outside part of it. Naturally, he would have his very unorthodox weapon and equally unorthodox animal companion with him. When Alura showed up, he would say "Top 'o the mornin to ya, m'lady." and give her a warm smile. Vulpa, however, who was sitting on the fountain, would just glare at Alura. [attr="class","ALPpostwrap"] Yesterday, Alura had spent the afternoon escorting Niyol, which provided the opportunity for the adventurer to sense the dramatic ambiance. Something was happening with the guild, and when the two had finally said their goodbyes, --she was able to find out what exactly was causing all the commotion. [break][break] Of course it would only make sense to alert Izanami, and make her aware of Niyol’s plan to enter the dungeon. It was important that he went in and could not wait, however, there was now the increased mortality rate. To counter this, Izanami told Alura she would assign them another adventurer to go into the dungeon with them tomorrow. There is a safety in numbers after all. [break][break] She was satisfied with the goddesses decision, and come the early morning, Alura left to meet the two at the fountain in front of the tower. She first saw Niyol… and vulpa… sitting there all nonchalant. She approached him, wearing the same dark colored armor she wore the last time they met, except this time in her hand was a iron spear. [break][break] “What an anomalous greeting,” she said in response to his strange form of ‘goodmorning’. She considered it to be a custom from his homeland rather than an attempt at a humorous quip, making her the gullible one. Though before he could correct her, another voice added to the conversation, pulling her red gaze from the man to the manakete that approached them. [break][break]A few inches shorter than Alura, and a whole foot and some smaller than Niyol, Rynn was not what she expected Izanami to assign them as a partner. It didn’t take clairvoyance to pick up on the diffident girl’s hesitation. [break][break] Re-focusing on what she was saying rather than her ‘intimidating’ demeanor, Alura smiled back before stepping towards Rynn with her hand extended, “I recognize you from the mansion, though we haven’t been properly introduced yet.-- My apologies. I am Alura, and this is Niyol; here is to us working well together Faerynn,” she said tilting her head to gesture towards the tall man who sat on the fountain. [break][break] ‘Don’t worry Rynn’ [break][break] “A ranged fighter would be nice, I have a feeling that Niyol likes to dive head first into trouble,” she said, snickering at her own joke. She hadn’t seen him fight yet, but from what she knew of him, he was dramatic and impulsive. [attr="class","ALPtag"] NIYOL

[nospaces] [attr="class","MNYwrapper"] [attr="class","MYNwrap"] [attr="class","MYNlyric"] you only truly die when you give up on being alive ..... [attr="class","MYNtopimg"] [attr="class","MYNlyric"] or if i kill you [attr="class","MYNtriangle"] [attr="class","MYNpostwrap"] [attr="class","MYNpostbox"] Alura had thought his greeting to be strange, and he was getting ready to remind her that she was exclusively his Crimson Princess, as per the previous day's discussions, but they were interrupted by a rather shaky voice beckoning to them. She introduced herself as 'Faerynn' as well as gave her role in combat. Magic and ranged support was a good balance for the group. Niyol was currently reduced to primarily melee, and Alura was no different from what he could tell- so a third close quarters combatant would make things cramped. Of course, this wasn't at any part of the man's thinking... [break][break] Snow white hair, scales that shimmered against the rising sun's rays, and a pair of absolutely darling wings that were all accompanied by a soft tone- there was only one logical thing for Niyol to do. Niyol had picked up Vulpa, who immediately let out a short hiss, and turned around to push her into Faerynn's chest. "Hold this." he said calmly. Vulpa wouldn't hiss at her or growl, just look at Niyol as though he were committing an act of treachery of the highest degree, and that she had every intention of making him wish he were dead by the end of his punishment. If Faerynn had begun petting Vulpa, the glare would intensify, and the creature's tail would wave just a little bit. [break][break] Niyol would then walk to Faerynn's back and look at her wings, examining the leathery material and how pretty it looked. He then came around to her side, extended his arms around her, and pulled her into his chest in a warm hug. He held the hug a few seconds before letting her go and saying "Sorry, you're just too precious to not hug." he said and moved to the fountain to grab his weapon. The bottom of the weapon had a standard spear tip attached to a black pole, leading seven feet up to a tip that was three spikes coming from the inside of a circle. If either girl had asked what Niyol meant when he called her 'precious' he would say "Well... You're really cute looking, and from the tone of your voice, I can tell you're not as wily as others. In fact, if I had to take a guess, I'd say you prefer books to bloodshed."[break][break] Niyol would twirl his scythe in his fingers a couple times before dropping the pole down on his arm and giving a big smile to the two girls. "Seems I'll be going in accompanied by a beautiful princess, and a lovely lady. That's quite a bit of pressure, you know?" his tone was friendly and even though they were heading straight to a hellish place, he was upbeat. "Since you went and gave your role, I guess I'll share, too." Niyol took the spear off his shoulder and spun it between his fingers rapidly before slamming the spear-end into the ground. "Name's Niyol, I'm a close-to-mid ranged fighter. I specialize in unorthodox tactics. I'll be counting on you Faerynn."[break][break] Once their introductions were done and they were on their way inside, Niyol would stop suddenly and glare at a group. There was quite a few of them, with a leader who was pretty well armored. Niyol had heard their leader giving the group a real grinding, talking about how anyone who disobeyed his orders would be left to rot. He kept moving forward and said under his breath "You'll be the first to die." while referring to the leader. If anyone had heard him and asked, Niyol would say "Don't worry about it, just thinking out loud."[break][break] At the entrance, Niyol would look to Alura and say "Alright, princess, you've been in here a lot more than I have so I'll follow your lead. Fae, you should stay back with Vulpa. She'll be able to let you know if anything's coming behind you, and you'll be able to cover our backs. Best keep it at three or four steps behind us, no more than that if you can help it. Zaza said that the black wyvern was encountered on Floor 17. She also told me that every floor before that has had stronger than normal enemies showing up. The other adventurers will be hitting the top floors hard to try and ease themselves into it. Larger parties will take on the upper-middle floors, and the lower-top floors. That's a lot of competition, and I know what happens when people compete for money... that money gets bloody. I'd recommend we stick to floors 14 through 17, and avoid the area that, that wyvern showed up. The enemies will be strong, but if we use a bit of tact, we should be able to handle it. There'd also be less competition since only stronger folk, or large parties will be hunting there. What are your opinions?" Niyol had looked to the two girls for their input. Even if a different plan was agreed on, the fact that Niyol, who had never once entered the dungeon, could make that kind of assessment with minimal knowledge would serve to show that he at least had some degree of analytical ability, and wasn't just going for the deepest floors for the sake of better loot. [attr="class","ALPpostwrap"] Despite having no prior knowledge of the dungeon, or even stepping foot inside to face the monsters, --Niyol had laid a plan at their feet, which was inarguably sound; except for one factor. [break][break] “On floor 15, we can expect to start seeing minotaurs. While we can likely battle any other monster, the minotaur is the exception. They are highly resistant and more of a challenge that we could take. We will descend to floor 14 but no lower,” she said, her tone getting more firm towards the end of her explanation. Normally they wouldn’t be allowed even plast floor 12 since they were all still level one, but the guild made a desperate move. [break][break] The higher floors presented little challenge in what monsters they did find. Like Niyol predicted, there were quite a few groups that were killing them faster than they could spawn. Not until their destination did they come across any defiance. A provoked dungeon showed its true hand, unleashing fanged beasts that she had yet to face. [break][break] Alura engaged one, her spear tip thrusting into the muscled flesh of the monster, and a high pitched voice echoed in her ear. They were surrounded, appearing from all sides, and their rear was in danger. With her attention towards Rynn, Alura didn’t catch the pair of claws that raked at her flank, tearing through her armor and ripping open her exposed abdomen. [break][break] Fear crawled over her, driving her to run from the group, and screaming at her to survive. Having to make a conscious effort not to abandon her moral standing, Alura delivered a hard kick to the creature, pushing it away far enough so that she could lunge towards Rynn. The girl was backed up against the wall, deadly blood lusting eyes watching her carefully. [break][break] The sound of her weapon cutting the air was followed by a shrill howl as her spear head crashed into the surface of the wolf. Pulling her instrument from the corpse, Alura swiftly brought it up to protect her from the leaping monster who now had her pinned to the ground. [break][break]Teeth and spit, a nasty tongue, and a foul attitude. She held off its crushing jaws, the length of her lance pressing against its throat, staying off its advance, --for now. Her strength wouldn’t last forever, and she was unsure of how many more wolves their were. It was likely that they underestimated the dungeon. [attr="class","ALPtag"] NIYOL

The plan was set, they'd go down into the middle of the mid-tier floors, but no deeper than floor fourteen to avoid the strongest of the dungeon's monsters. There was no hesitance in Niyol's agreeing with Alura, she knew this place better than he did, so he trusted her experience just as much as he trusted her judgement. Faerynn hadn't made any complaints with their plan, and seemed to just be going along with it, trusting in her team. Either that, or she wasn't comfortable enough with them to give her honest opinion- whichever it was, Niyol couldn't tell. [break][break] The descent into the dungeon wasn't too terrible. They'd walked past people killing monsters, allowing Niyol's skill to kick in and give him a boost for when the real fighting began. Groups of goblins, spiders, a few lizard-looking things had all been walked past without Niyol even lifting a finger. While passing through a rather dismal looking zone that was covered in fog, dying brush, and a white-washed color palette, Niyol was able to see a group of adventurers taking down a trio of orcs. They were strong looking creatures, but none too bright. [break][break] Floor eleven... or twelve... maybe. He wasn't actually keeping track. It wasn't long after they'd gotten to the floor that things got exciting. Niyol was expecting something to come at them from the front, since all of the potential foes had been passed. He didn't think that things in this place literally spawned in, like some sort of video game from hell. The howling was heard by Niyol, and the fiery looking mane on Vulpa's back began glowing right before Faerynn shouted 'Behind' and began engaging the wolves. They spawned in fast and immediately went to attacking, something Niyol would have to remember for future trips. [break][break] The first wolf to attack was mostly taken care of by Faerynn with quick and precise strikes. Niyol heard the thud from where it fell, but he didn't sense its death, so he was sure that it was just disabled. Whatever, they could finish it off later. The second wolf had advanced and got Faerynn against the wall, a bad spot in tight quarters for anyone, and even worse for an archer. At the same time, she had alsu sustained an injury to one of her hands. It didn't appear deadly, but it was still a wound. [break][break] Alura had advanced to take the heat off of Rynn, managing to get the attention of the third wolf. It had got Alura across the stomach, speedy little bastard, which left Niyol as the only uninjured person in the group. Direwolves were big, strong, fast, and very intelligent. They could strategize and make changes to their attack patterns on the fly, and even take notice when their enemy was being worn down. Niyol had gotten on a knee and pulled his bag off his back, reaching in and grabbing the rope he'd brought with him. He was expecting this to be like spelunking, so the original intent for the rope was for descending into cracks, but this would have to do. [break][break] Niyol had rammed the circle end of his weapon into some nearby rocks, sending them deep between the stones so they wouldn't move much. He constantly looked over his shoulder, making sure that the ten seconds it took him to do this also wasn't the last thirty seconds of his allies' lives. Niyol then grabbed his rope and positioned himself so his back was to the propped spear. He tied a loop on the rope to make a lasso and threw it just as the dire wolf attacking Faerynn was making a high jump, attempting to descend on the dragon girl's form with a pounce. The lasso wrapped around its throat and Niyol pulled hard, bringing it to the ground. "Help Alura!" Niyol shouted while tugging the snarling monster away from the archer. [break][break] Niyol tugged on the rope hard, using the strength he'd absorbed from all of the people and monsters that died on their way in. The wolf gave up on trying to attack Faerynn, and switched priority to the one holding him back- Niyol. Niyol released the rope and spread his legs apart to distribute his weight, acting as if he were going to receive the wolf's tackle. He waited, the adrenaline being the same as the first time he'd used this trap. It got closer, time began slowing down for him, his heart raced, his mind became clearer than it had been in the past couple weeks. It got closer, and Niyol was able to perceive just how huge these wolves were. Closer still, and Niyol could feel its teeth on his flesh, even though it was a whole meter and a half away. The beast began lunging, taking its feet off the ground and Niyol ducked to roll on his side. The spear, backed by the force of the wolf's momentum, had gone all the way through the beast. The creature turned to dust and Niyol's lasso fell to the ground alongside a black crystal. 'So that's what she was talking about.' he thought. [break][break] By this point the two girls likely would've finished their battle. Niyol would grab the rope and spool it back up, as well as collect the crystal. "Sucks that they turn to dust when they die. That pelt could've made some really nice clothes." he said in a half-joking-half-serious tone. Niyol would pull out a wooden box with various medical supplies. He would offer to bandage their wounds. If they allowed him, then Niyol would have one of them stand guard while he worked on the other- Alura being the first, if she let him. Assuming they did, then Alura would quickly find out that Niyol's kit had a few things that this world didn't quite have, including a strange, clear liquid that burned like hell when applied to an open wound. This world had alcohol in the traditional sense, but not in the medical sense, as far as he knew. Niyol would warn her beforehand that it was gonna hurt, of course, while also letting her know it's to prevent infection. Faerynn would get the same treatment as Alura for her wounds. When helping both, Niyol would remain focused looking and talk in a softer tone than normal. At the end of it, they would both have bandages on them made from white silk that was soaked in some sort of herby smelling liquid. If asked what it was, Niyol would say "You don't wanna know." [break][break] Whether the ladies had accepted treatment or not, Niyol would look at them both and say "That last group got a couple good hits on you, I got lucky. I'll leave the decision up to you, two. Do we push on, or return to the familia house?" If one of them wanted to leave, and the other stay, then Niyol would say "How about a compromise? We go to a less extreme floor." If they both wanted to keep going, Niyol would have Alura take his place in the middle and provide directions from there. If they both wanted to leave, Niyol would nod and agree with them, without a hint of disappointment in his tone. [attr="class","ALPpostwrap"] One moment her vision is filled with large incisors and vicious intent, --the next, she is lying on the ground as the beast above dissipated into ash. Her chest lifted and fell quickly with each breath, fear still clutching at her pumping heart. There was a moment of silence, signaling their freedom from danger, for the time being at least. [break][break] Crimson orbs gazed at Niyol, who moved closer to her with a box. She wouldn't have protested any aid, but "FUCK THAT BURNS!" she hissed, her back lurching from the stinging pain that came and went fairly quickly. Sweat permeated from her brow, clinging onto her pale skin as he bandaged her side. This would would prove to be a problem, as would Faerynn's. [break][break] Niyol made a suggestion, and Rynn gave her input as well. From what Alura understood, Faerynn was a newer adventurer, but she was wise in her counsel. They had to get off of this floor; but the floors above them were not much different in terrain. Her lip quivered as she thought about going one floor lower, pushing herself to stand up, with one hand resting atop of her wound. [break][break] "The floor opens up immensely one floor below. Or at least that is what the map in the guild said. The walls turn more to sheer cliffs, illuminated by bright white crystals and large cavernous openings that allow the bullheaded monsters to walk through with ease," she said, referencing the minotaurs that she would rather avoid, "But we have to go up to get home, so sustaining anymore injuries could be fatal."[break][break] It was a predicament for sure. Going up the floors was just as dangerous as going below provided they come across any obstacles. [attr="class","ALPtag"] NIYOL
